The yearly event was initially set to occur in Las Vegas in 2020. However, unexpected challenges arising from the global COVID-19 pandemic derailed those plans. As a result, the 2020 NFL Draft underwent a complete shift to a virtual and remote format, marking the first time in its history. Originally slated as a live happening in Las Vegas, Nevada, all public activities associated with the draft were canceled due to the pandemic.
Instead, team selections took place via videoconferencing, with league commissioner Roger Goodell making announcements from his home. The draft, prompted by the ongoing pandemic, evolved into a virtual experience. Considering the circumstances, Las Vegas was granted the opportunity to host the 2022 Draft.
